I would love to bring attention to the best little game nobody has ever heard of.
Cortex Command

It’s a GREAT indy game made by some really passionate and intelligent guys, the game used to be free but recently they have implemented a payment system, but its cheap.

Cortex Command at first glance looks like Worms meets Soldat. But it is so much more!

“In Cortex Command, you play as a prospector and explorer in a time where complete cybernetics and whole-body amputations are common practice. Your severed brain is able to control many different types of bodies remotely from its underground bunker: clones, robots, spaceships, defensive turrets, and so on.”

So basically you have a ‘brain’ to protect from AI or human controlled enemies. The landscape has buried gold you can dig out that you use to order in new units and weapons that is delivered by a chaotic drop ship delivery system. Some of the most fun that can be had would be playing the game co-op (even on 1 keyboard) against relentless AI.

The game uses a great physics model with completely destructible terrain, gibbing characters and ships and even includes base building. The physics is really what does it for me, I can’t think of many games that can make me laugh so hard as crazy situations are always happening. Such as being crushed by falling debris, accidentally blowing your own arms off or being caught in a drop ships thrusters. The game has a large and active modding community who create new weapons, maps and sprites. It is also really easy to configure, just open up one of the config files and change valuables such as weapon rates of fire. (There are many modding tutorials on the CC Wiki page and forums *the wiki is still under construction*) You may also have to check out the tutorial or read a little online to figure everything out because the game can be a bit dense and hard to access straight off.

Basically you should have stopped reading this at the link and gone and checked it out. Hopefully it will eventually wind up on steam to reach a true mass market as this is a huge nugget of gold hidden deep in the earths crust.

  1. The game was not made by A team.
    More Like, 2 people.
One person does the actual coding.
the other person does the spriting (what the game looks like) .

The Wiki isn’t completely finished BTW

  2. Well yes, a very very small team, but good of you to point out.

  3. rebirth… ugh.. It is more than 2 people. If you would bother opening the readme you would find this inside.

  4. Sorry for doublepost but this hit my eyes:
“Basically you should have stopped reading this at the link and gone and checked it out.”
Maybe you should move this to BEFORE the wiki link and add the actual datarealms.com link somewhere before it. The wiki is not the best place to direct people right now.

  5. Although a lot of other people have contributed bits anc pieces, it really is basically two people actively working on it.. me and Prom.

    Great writeup, we’re flattered!

  6. Why Not Give It a Proper Review, like when gamespot reviews a game.
You Should also give Links for Recommended Mods: Like The AAL Pack.

And Don’t Forget to say that this game can be played with USB controllers

  7. Recommended mod links would be a bad idea since people would begin bitchin’ about it, you should rather provide a link to the mod folder and mention a couple of mods

  8. *mod forum

    *cough cough*

  9. oh its ok! Haha, it’s not like I have any readers to re direct.

  10. CC is awesome, although I’m waiting for my slave, um, I mean brother, to come back and loose against me.

  11. (At Rebirth’s first comment) Holy shit! Have you heard of these weird things called “objects”? Apparently they define our world! Speaking of world, have you heard of these weird things called “worlds”? Apparently they…

    Now, onto the actual post
    *Ahem*

FUCKING PASSIONATE!? WE ARE FUCKING TALKING ABOUT SOME GUY WHO FUCKING REFUSES TO EVEN TELL HIS COMMUNITY WHAT HE IS WORKING ON WITHOUT MAKING THEM WAIT A FUCKING MONTH!

    Anyway, there’s my rant.

  12. I am trying to keep from reading trash like this. Man, you are sick. How did this came to your mind?
